10,000 ways that won’t work

Moren Leveque, a professor at the Schulich School of Business asked me to speak to her students later this week.

I was expecting to talk about by experiences as an entrepreneur and an angel investor – what worked for me and some success factors.  Instead she asked me to speak about my failures.

The problem was I have had lots of bumps in the road, plenty of detours and quite a few disasters – but failures – no. Not sure what to do, I went on line and researched failure.  This quote from Thomas Edison expresses my experiences.

“I have not failed.  I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.”

Deciding that I would talk about the things that did not work, I have lots of content for the class. After starting and building two companies – Student Express and now 401 Bay Centre – and my experiences as an angel investor, I have lots of examples of ‘things that did not work’.

The problem now is isolating just a few to share.
