Supplier Diversity with Kellogg

Susan Baka, president of Bay Communications & Marketing, Inc specializes in helping corporations, governments and associations attain leadership positions in niche areas such as diversity and entrepreneurship by developing strategies and communication vehicles that resonate with their target audiences. Her firm was one of the first 10 certified through WeConnect Canada. Her article “Crossing the Border” highlights and shares tips regarding Kellogg’s decision to further increase its presence in Canada and embrace growth in its North American Diversity spend as a whole.

Kellogg’s became members of professional Canada organizations such as WeConnect Canada and the Canadian Aboriginal and Minority Supplier Council (CAMSC). They are founding partners in event sponsorship and membership for the Canadian Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (CGLCC) Certification helped Nulogy Corp (ww.nulogy.com) win direct business with Kellogg’s while attending a CAMSC trade event last year.

Marnie Walker talks about the importance of certification and how belonging to professional organizations demonstrates credibility to banks and angel investors. “Another benefit of certification is peer mentoring, which is “very” power”, Marnie says. Although supplier diversity programs and certification are fairly new to Canada, Marnie sees how they have made a huge difference in the U.S. “They have opened many doors and networks for my women entrepreneur counterparts who are part of the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC).”
